Class Reflection 3/31/2011

Class today was unusual just like any other lesson with Doc Chris should be. Surprisingly nobody was put on trial for poor performance/behavior today but we did have a few names mentioned for honorable performance. For court Doc kept up his usual gig with the law and order theme song and official voice that you'd usually find in a court room or on a Law & Order episode. We spent the majority of the class roaming around the college center snapping pictures and shooting video and I'm more than certain that we weirded a few people out with our out of the norm behavior. After Doc Chris finished giving us a tour of the already familiar cafeteria and decided he was done conversing with more than half the people in the cafeteria he lead us back down stairs in the Comm Department to have us review our excess amounts of picture and videos. I thought class went pretty good today, although I'm still not sure I completely understood the goal Doc had in mind when he created the second exam. I'm sure Doc will let us know how we did by next week and although I still feel a bit puzzled I'm more than certain that somehow our class activities today benefited me and Doc Chris did an awesome job.

Exam 2 Vulcan

Photo Portion

This photo portrays multiple colors. Each color appears to be a liquid which is contained within a bottle or some sort of container. The containers all have an orange circle on top of them which is most likely a cap. Each container has some gray paper like object wrapper around it with a large "G" on it. The bottle are all illuminated with light. There is also a male in the photo who is very poorly lit in comparison to the bottles. The male is wearing a black object on his head with some sort of white decal on the front of it.

The photo portrays a black male and what appear to be two other people on the left and right sides of the photo. The black male is wearing black below his waste and above his waste he is wearing some sorta of brown colored clothing over white clothing and a yellowish piece of fabric that is hanging from his neck. The male is being engulfed in light that appears to be coming through windows. In the background of the picture a section of ground elevates and rises up in a fashion so that people may walk up it to get to higher places.

 This picture is greatly affected by the lighting in it, there is light coming from above, but the entire lower 2/3 of the picture is darkened and difficult to make out. The picture contains a collection of male and females walking in alternate directions. There are several green lights hanging from the ceiling and two white lights. The clothing of the people cannot be made out because it is so dark. There is also an orangeish light coming from the doorway in the back of the photo.

This picture contains a lot of dull, grayish/whiteish colors. The picture features a black male with some sort of objects covering his eyes and reflecting images, they appear to be made of some sort of glass. The male is wearing brown over his torso and there is a wall that is seemingly constructed of stone in the background. A segment of the stone wall opens up and reveals a wooden border around the opening area and lights coming from the opening.

This picture is completely out of focus and seems to capture motion in a still frame. There are multiple white lights on the ceiling and one green light on the wall. There is a white male who seems to be walking towards the camera wearing blue on his legs and a dark colored, patterned fabric over his torso. There are multiple people behind the person in the blue and dark colored clothing, but the people behind him are unable to be clearly made out.

Video Portion
Video 1
Sight: There is a warm colored room filled with reds and maroons. Four elaborate lights are hanging from the ceiling which has multiple cylindrical objects running across it there are also several circular lights that appear to be built into the interior of the ceiling. The floor is a brownish red color and has multiple yellow outlined circles throughout it. The room is filled with circular platforms that are about 3 feet above the ground and have people sitting around them talking and eating. Around the table which is most apparent are 5 white males sitting and 1 black male standing in front of them. One of the seated males is consistently eating and drinking fluids while on is leaning on the circular platform and placing his head in the palm of his hand smiling and looking at the black male.
Sound: They are talking but due to background noise it's inaudible. The black male is rather pronounced when speaking but you still can't make out what he is saying. Two of the males at the table seem to be having a side conversation with each other occasionally and are looking at the circular platform.
Motion: There is not any significant motion other than the passing by of other people in front of the males by the circular platform. The black male also moves around the table towards the end of the video clip.

 

Video 2

Sight: The camera is shot at a low angle to the subjects who appear to all be female. The camera shot is also very close to the subjects, all the subjects are wearing black clothing some subjects have black tight clothing over their legs also, while others have bare legs. The platform they are on is lit up with red lights.

Sound: There appears to be music playing. There is a female vocalist and a lot of percussion sounds playing in the background of the song making sort of "tock" noises. Around 22 seconds the music gets louder and the beat picks up the pace and becomes faster. Around 40 seconds a male voice begins to become apparent as well as the female voice.

Motion: There is a lot of motion in this video, the subjects are moving around to the beat of the music, the most noticeable motion is the females spinning around and leaping high across the stage, another common motion in the video is for the females to lean over as if they are trying to touch there toes, and then they slowly roll there body back up to an up straight position.

 

Video 3
Sight: All the subjects are female and matching in this video. Each subject is wearing a white piece of cloth of the torso with buttons leading down the center of the chest, they also have some sort of black bands running over their shoulders. All the subjects are wearing black clothing from waist down. As opposed to the red lights in the previous video the lights are now blue for this performance.
Sound: The music in this video is very, very fast and up beat. The vocals are male and it sounds as though there is some sort of a guitar or other string instrument playing. The vocals mention something about "foot loose" multiple times. It also sounds like there is a large percussion instrument playing that is keeping the beat of the song.
Motion: This video is loaded with motion from the subjects dancing. The most noticeable motion is the big, very deliberate steps that the subjects take in step with the beat of the music, there is also a period where the dancers come to a complete stop for a good period of time, and another portion where they simultaneously drop to their knees. All the subjects are moving in sync with each other.

 

Exam 1

Sight Quiz
Vulcan 1:The first item is a gray and mostly white rectangular box hanging from the ceiling. I can barely make out a circle and blue light coming out of the circle on what i think is the front of the box. The back of the box has a large bulge that ruins the basic rectangular shape of the box slightly. On the bottom and side of the box I can see cut outs and lines that appear to go into the internals of the box. also on the bottom are the letters E, P, S, O and N. On the bottom there are two cut out areas that have rectangular panels that seem to open up into the box somehow. there is a lot of writing on the bottom, there also appear to be several buttons.

Vulcan 2: The second item is a significantly larger box. The box is a square based shape. the front of the box has a series of lines running across it that form rectangular shapes. there is a small badge type thing that says "HP" this same shape is on the right side (which is gray). on the front are several indentations that seem large enough for a hand to grab onto. On the right side is a series of lines and cutout areas in between the lines that seem to lead into the object's internals.

Sound Quiz
Theres a series of instruments playing and a man with a deep voice singing. A man says "James Brown" multiple times. The man repeats that he feels good multiple times, then a group of female voices say "so good" after this the man says "i feel nice" and the women say "so nice" the man then says "like sugar and spice" there are a few instrumental breaks in the song where the man stops singing. he mentioned dynamite a few times.

Motion Quiz
unsteadily moves down line with arms crossed, does a spin, puts hands on hips and moves up and down line in other direction while raising and lowering his height. begins walking down line again sticking hand out in front of him one after another.

Class Reflection 3/24/2011

I thought class was pretty fun today. We started the day off with crazy Ray's go-kart, ramp jumping shenanigans and finished it on a strong note with an SSM quiz (the first of the semester). I can safely say I've never had an exam like that but it was a really fair exam and perfectly tested everything that we have practiced thus far in the semester. I had a good time and felt good about my performance on the quiz. Doc Chris showed everybody up on the motion part of the quiz as he slid down the soul train line bustin' some fresh moves and I think he did a great job of leading the class activities today and really utilizing every minute of the time we had and still getting us out of class early.

Tiger and Jimmy

Sight: The video starts with 2 men sitting down, one black and one white. The two men spend the duration of the video looking at each other and they both seem to be paying close attention. The black man (tiger) is sitting with his legs crossed and seems slightly uneasy. The video cuts back between the interview and pictures of tiger playing golf frequently.
Sound: The talking begins with the white man (jimmy) thanking tiger for coming onto a late night comedy show. Jimmy then mentions a "situation" or "thing" tiger went through. Jimmy then thanks tiger for this as it is good comedy material. Jimmy mentions how many golf jokes that were able to be made about the pain Tiger was experiencing. A female voice comes on and asks what Tiger has been up to aside from bad golf.
Motion: The video is relatively motionless. For the most part Jimmy and Tiger remain stationary. A few times they wriggle in their chairs and at points Jimmy brings his hands to his face. That's the extent of the motion in the video though.

Class reflection 3/17/2011

Class was a short one this Thursday, only about 45 minutes. Plus not everyone showed up on time, so we had to wait a little bit for everyone to show up, so in reality class was more like 35ish minutes long. We didn't really learn much in class, however the period was effective in getting everything organized. We now have a plan for finishing the chapter summaries and we were able to decide the proper punishment for those who didn't attend class. I'd say although we didn't learn much in class it was still a good use of time and I think the entire class did a good job including Doc Chris.

Charlie Sheen: The Biwinner Drug Free Man With Tiger's Blood

Charlie Sheen has been all over the press recently with some of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard. Each interview Sheen finds a new way to appall me whether it be a memorable quote, or a head turning pair of baby sitters. The incredible thing about all these quotes is that Sheen was apparently drug free during the interviews. He must be one eccentric guy to come up with this stuff completely sober. So in order to prod some thoughts about these interesting statements by Sheen, I'm going to break down one of his interviews using the Vulcan, Sound, Sight and Motion technique created by Doc Chris.

Sight: The video starts with a man and woman behind a large desk talking. The video then cuts and opens up inside a room that seems to belong in someone's house (presumably Charlie Sheen's). The background is all out of focus and the only thing in focus is Charlie Sheen and some Woman talking to him. The camera often cuts back between the woman and Charlie depending on who is talking. A noticeable sight is a cigarette in Charlie Sheen's hand, making it look like he doesn't care about the interview one bit.

Sound: The first audio mentions Charlie Sheen and a recent night he had with excessive drugs and porn stars. The two people talking speak very clearly and casually, one male, one female. The casual male voice then goes away and then Charlie Sheen's voice comes in and he begins talking to the woman. Charlie Sheens voice is casual for the most part but he will occasionally raise his voice and increase his speaking speed when he gets excited about questions. He doesn't seem to take any comments by the woman seriously and when asked if he is bipolar, he asks what the word means (which seems odd considering he has a high school diploma at least). He claims that he is "biwinner" because he wins here, and he wins there. This makes it sound like he's making a joke of the interview. He claims that he is some sort of special person and doesn't want to be made like "them". He claims he is on top and he never crashes meaning he can't be bipolar (I think he's delusional).  The woman asked him when the last time he "used" was, which she is clearly implying drug use by saying, Charlie gave her a smart ass response and said he uses lots of things, like vacuums and blenders etc. He begins to brag about how many drugs he took the last time he did use drugs and claimed that it was an inhuman amount but he could handle it because he's Charlie Sheen, he's different, he's got tiger blood. He is beginning to make a complete fool of himself with these sayings.
Motion: There's a lot of body language and motion in the video. Sheen doesn't stop moving for a second throughout the entire video. It seems as though Sheen was uneasy or something. His smoking through part of the interview showed a lack of care, and his eyes avoided eye contact several times as he rolled his eyes and head to what the woman had to say. He looked down at the ground several times and made eccentric hand/arm motions. I don't think that he is sane.

Class Reflectin 3/4/2011

The Panera class went pretty well I thought. It was entertaining as we ate and it was entercational as we talked about Charlie Sheen and his ridiculous life style. I'd say we learned a good bit about better ways to go about doing what Sheen is doing, and it was interesting to hear the opinions of people who have different majors than the kids in the class. I did think that sometimes it got distracting to pay attention with all the other stuff going on around the table, but Doc Chris definitely didn't have any trouble at all with speaking over all the excess, random noise. For these reasons, I'm gonna say good work Doc, another job well done.
